Stand Up Paddle Board
SUP Adventures in St. Simon's Island
There is something about gliding through the surf on a paddle board I find incredibly peaceful. Last week I was able to experience this tranquility while paddle boarding with John, one of the owners of SSI SUP. Prior to my outing with John, I had only been paddle boarding once and was a bit nervous about going out on the surf (especially for a photoshoot)! John was very helpful and showed me the basics before we even got on the water. He was great at explaining how to balance, turn, and paddle.
SSI SUP offers a variety of excursions at all levels from novice to pro. I am particularly interested in their sunset tour + night adventures. The tour begins at sunset and goes well into dusk. The boards are lit up to give the paddle boarder a real experience of being on the water at night. I will definitely be adding this excursion to my to do list when I host friends later this summer.
Attire for paddle boarding is super simple: just wear what you would to the beach! Be sure to wear sunscreen and bring a hat and towel. For this shoot, I wore a sun protective swim dress courtesy of Mott 50. I liked their Sonja swim dress because of the flattering shape and the adjustable ruching on the sides. The fabric was light weight and quick to dry. I also wore their Gisele straw hat which offered the perfect amount of shade.
