Singer & Songwriter Spotlight
Meet Singer & Songwriter Owen Plant + Discover His New Album
Owen Plant is an extraordinary singer and songwriter who was born in Jamaica, and currently resides on Saint Simons Island, GA. His style is greatly impacted by artists from older reggae and contemporary acoustic artists from the 70s. He was influenced by Bob Marley, James Taylor, Avett Brothers, Amos Lee, and local artists such as Pace Conner. He’s well known for his laid back, soothing and well-honed vocals, which is complimented by his impressive ability to perform a true show. On July 31st, you can discover his music and celebrate his new album, I Was On the Moon, at Sea Island’s free album release concert at Rainbow Island, with country singer Jane Kramer as the opener.
His love for music started at a young age as he played the piano, percussion, and sang in a local group that toured Jamaica. When he moved to LA, his father began teaching him how to play the guitar. Shortly thereafter he went to study in Spain and realized his true passion for singing and songwriting. Since then, he has been writing his own music and has performed in several different bands. He joined the Vans Warped Tour in 2012 and 2013, where he became known as a national touring artist.
Today he performs all around the nation at festivals, clubs, cafes, wineries, resorts and for private functions. The best part is that he is the artist-in-residence at Sea Island! Make sure to look out for his upcoming solo album, I Was On the Moon. All but one of the tracks from his new album were written on St. Simons Island. The track “Riverside” was specifically inspired by the unique beauty found in coastal Georgia. On July 31st, Sea Island is hosting a free album release concert at Rainbow Island, with country singer Jane Kramer as the opener, to celebrate the debut of this highly anticipated album!
