Opinions are 100% my own.
Last week, Kelli and I had the opportunity to head south to the Florida Keys. Our destination was Little Palm Island Resort & Spa, a private island oasis that is only accessible by seaplane or boat. It truly was a special treat and I can’t wait to share our experience with you! If you’re planning a trip to Little Palm Island Resort & Spa or searching for your next beach getaway, then pin this story to make your planning easier!
Our friends visited this private resort a few years ago and always raved about their trip. It’s a quick flight to Key West, which is very appealing. Even though the island is only a 15 minute boat ride from Key West, it still feels very secluded. The resort only has 30 ‘rooms’, which keeps it very private, while also allowing you to get to know other guests if you choose to. This has been on my list of resorts to visit and it certainly didn’t disappoint. Here’s what to expect when visiting Little Palm Island Resort & Spa.
Airport + Motor Yacht Transportation.
The resort is a short 30 minute ride from Key West International Airport. We previously arranged transportation with Little Palm Island Resort & Spa. They had a very hospitable driver waiting for us near baggage claim, which made getting to the resort very easy. We hopped on board and headed to the ferry. The resort has a beautiful motor yacht that leaves at the bottom of every hour. Don’t worry if you just missed the boat — they have an air conditioned lounge where you can wait for the next departure. There, you can sip on fresh coconut cocktails while browsing their gift shop. This is also where you check-in to the hotel. It’s less about paperwork and more about making sure you are comfortable + relaxed. This is the moment when your vacation truly begins.
Arrival.
After a short 15 minute boat ride, you arrive at the Resort. Their gracious staff is there to meet you and give you a brief tour of the property. We went straight to the pool, where we enjoyed lunch at the tiki bar. The bartender, Liz, is well known to the guests and recommends a specialty cocktail, which changes daily. They also have a full bar, which is where we had our first encounter with the Key Deer! They swim from the neighboring island in search of food. They’re so sweet + friendly and they will come right up to you. It’s a special experience that is really unique to this resort, plus the deer are just too cute!
Accommodations.
Don’t expect the cookie cutter hotel room; instead you have your own private bungalow. They’re decadently comfortable and each one overlooks the water on the five acre island. The tropical foliage provides added seclusion. Oh, and they also have an outdoor bamboo shower.
Outdoor Pursuits.
One of my favorite aspects of Little Palm Island Resort & Spa is that they offer a wide variety of outdoor activities such as snorkeling, deep sea fishing, sailing, kiteboarding, helicopter rides, sky diving and more. If you’re looking for something a bit more low-key as a resort guest, you can go take out their motor boat, borrow fishing poles, go stand up paddle boarding and participate in many more activities for no added charge. Of course you can always lounge or relax by the pool, while sipping on some of Liz’s famous frozen margaritas.
Spa.
I would highly recommend the spa. I always like to book my spa service first thing in the morning to set the tone for the day. Kelli and I both got a massage. I opted for the hot stone massage, and it was the best hot stone massage that I have ever had! I could’ve laid there all day and was happy to leave feeling truly relaxed and refreshed. If we stayed one more day, Kelli and I would’ve booked the same services the next day — it was that good! So don’t miss their incredible spa services.
Island Dining.
Of course anywhere on the Island has beautiful water views, but they were especially amazing from The Dining Room. Every seat in the restaurant has picturesque views of the famous sunset, and of course, you can see the Key Deer roaming the beaches. They’re also brave enough to come up to your table and snatch some bread, so make sure to have your cameras ready. The Dining Room has a great atmosphere that is complimented by the live music and fire pit. Their menu changes daily to keep it varied for guests since its the only dining option on the Island. There you can expect tropical cuisine with a Cuban flare. I’d recommend the lobster and a refreshing glass of Whispering Angel Rosé.
Check out Little Palm Island Resort & Spa on Instagram to get a taste of this unique resort. It’s truly an island oasis. Just remember, they do not allow cell phone use in public areas and the wireless internet coverage is limited — so come with relaxation in mind. We all need a break from constantly being connected.
Thank you Little Palm Island Resort & Spa for such an unforgettable experience. We’ll definitely be back!
