The Art of the Entry: Classic White
Recreate the Look of this Classic Birmingham Home
What We Love:
I love the classic entry — black doors, white shutters and planted boxwoods. The eyes are drawn to the symmetry of the house which makes it visually appealing. I also love the white on white look (white house/white shutters).
Recreate The Look:
Gas Lanterns. Ever since living in Charleston, I LOVE the look of gas lanterns. You can find similar lanterns that flank this door in the Carolina Lantern collection by Carolina Lanterns. Try the Madison or Aspen Lanterns.
Potted Boxwoods. I love these aged Terra Cotta planters from One Kings Lane. The antique finish gives them a vintage feel. If you’re looking for the exact planters shown, try these traditional terra cotta ones by Hayneedle.
House Numbers. Opt for brass house numbers from House of Antique Hardware. I’m going to order the same ones for our home. You can choose a variety of finishes such as Antique Pewter or Oil-Rubbed Bronze. I usually stick to the same finish as the light fixtures.
Fig Ivy. You’ll see a good bit of fig ivy growing on houses in the South. We have fig ivy on our house and it adds great texture. Just know that it grows quickly during growing season and you have to stay on it to keep it nicely trimmed. You can get this from your local garden center if you’re in the right growing climate.
