Artist Spotlight: Mary Margaret Monsees
A Q&A with a Savannah Based Artist
Today, I’m so excited to spotlight a talented Savannah-based artist, Mary Margaret Monsees. I’ve been obsessed with her paintings since I first found them on Instagram over a year ago! I practically saved every post so I knew that I just had to have her designs in my home!
I specifically gravitated toward her flower-study paintings and decided that a gallery would be perfect for the large wall in my double parlor. Once I received her originals (full of texture + color!) I sent them to Framebridge to be framed in their Montclare design, a gold tulip pattern. After I hung them, they totally transformed the room and the flowers perfectly compliment my space. Truly, these beauties are show-stopping. The gallery includes flowers that can be found around Savannah such as irises, lilies, azaleas, daisies, daffodils, hydrangeas, magnolias and tulips.
I find the process behind a painting very intriguing, so I thought that a Q&A format with Mary Margaret would be fun and insightful. Please enjoy!
What inspires you?
Beauty in the every day.
How do you decide which flowers to paint? Is is a different process when you’re creating a gallery wall?
For Monica’s gallery wall, I wanted to create a collection of flowers you see throughout the city of Savannah during different seasons. I love when the daffodils pop up in early spring to remind us warm weather is around the corner, and when the azaleas bloom they positively take over the city. Likewise, I am passionate about interior design so I love the opportunity to work with my commission clients to draw inspiration from fabrics and materials. Monica’s house is full of soft blues, greens, and pinks so this collection is a reflection of her beautiful home.
Are the prints available for purchase yet?
These 10 flower-studies will be turned into prints and available for purchase via my online shop this fall. I’d encourage you to subscribe to my email list to stay in the know or follow me on Instagram at @mstudio.
