My Main Bathroom Reveal
A Traditional and Functional Space
Today, I’m sharing my main bathroom reveal in our Savannah home! This project has been so much fun and I couldn’t be happier with the final design. It’s now a light, bright and airy space — exactly how I envisioned my master bathroom!
Before.
But first, let’s take a look at the ‘before’ pictures. When we first bought our home last fall, the master bathroom wasn’t functional for two people. It only had one sink with a lot of unnecessary walls that made the space feel dark and small. We worked with Chad Goehring from Harrison Design to redesign the room. It was important to maximize the space and add a soaking tub, double vanity and private water closet. Chad worked with us for our master bedroom closet design and we were so happy with how everything turned out. He is always such a pleasure to work with especially when it come to historic homes.
After.
My first step in designing this main bathroom was to select the tile for the floor and shower walls. Luckily, I live a few blocks away from Garden State and Tile located on Abercorn Street in Savannah, Georgia. I arrived with a handful of pictures from Instagram to help guide the selection process. Kellie McTyre whom is based at the Savannah Showroom was incredibly helpful in the design process. I wanted a very clean design to compliment the Farrow & Ball All White walls and trim but Kellie recommended a pop of blue tile for the shower walls. My final tile choices were:
- Bianco Gioia Marble Mosaic Tile Ovation Hexagon (shower floor)
- Glacier Marble Tile, 10″ Hexagon, honed (main floor)
- Folly Blue, matte 3×12 (shower walls)
- Glacier Marble Tile 12×24, honed (shower curb)
Most people, including myself, can be very overwhelmed in a tile showroom! I’d encourage you to bring inspiration pictures with you and ask for help. Garden State and Tile has numerous locations and luckily for us offers free design assistance.
For the finishing touches, I turned to LuxHoldups, Circa Lighting, Josh Young, Hausera, Lacefield and Weezie. Since the space was a blank canvas, it was important to infuse personality + color using accessories, wall art, lighting and textiles.
- I opted for Lucite hardware courtesy of LuxHoldups in polished nickel. I installed their beautiful pulls, towel holders and hooks throughout the space, including my master bedroom. Their hardware is gorgeous in-person and truly makes the space feel luxurious! The traditional polished nickel finish matches the lighting and plumbing fixtures found throughout the master bathroom.
- Due to the size of the bathroom, we installed Circa Lighting’s Vivian Double Sconce in polished nickel above the double vanity as well as the George II Mini Chandelier above the claw foot tub. Of course both light fixtures were installed with dimmers to precisely control the lighting throughout the day. I love the traditional style and elegance that these fixtures bring into the bathroom.
- For neutral window panels I chose Reeva Gesso courtesy of Lacefield Design. It’s a beautiful beige linen with mini quatrefoil designs throughout. I love how this fabric looks in the space and the design adds just the right amount of detail. I have many Lacefield Designs textiles throughout my home, including my recent sunroom renovation in St. Simons Island.
- I’ve been admiring Josh Young’s fine art for years and his portrait art fit perfectly above the claw foot tub. The art adds an unexpected look to the otherwise traditional space. He has numerous portraits to choose from on his website but I opted for the Harrison and Paloma (c/o). I love how the colors from the portraits compliment the blue tile on the shower walls. All of his portrait art is individually hand-signed and hand-painted. I had these beauties framed using Framebridge’s silver Brighton frame. I’d also recommend following Josh Young Design House on Instagram for swoon-worthy interior design and fine art inspiration.
- Of course, I had to have Weezie towels (c/o) on-hand in my bathroom since their monogrammed towels are the softest and most sought-after in the industry. I opted for their green piping for a pop of color as it looks great with the blue tile shower walls and varying shades of green in the rug.
Stay tuned for a major giveaway in the new year and more details on the plumbing fixtures. I’m going to share all details surrounding the claw foot tub, sinks, faucets and more in a separate post.
Thanks for stopping by and please let me know if you have any questions.
