Spring Hostess Gift Idea
Plant Flowering Bulbs in Silver Julep Cups for A Unique Hostess Gift
Today, I’m sharing an easy + fresh idea for a hostess gift. They’re perfect for a variety of occasions such as an Easter brunch, dinner party, birthday celebration or Mother’s Day! Lately I’ve been obsessed with planting bulbs around my backyard. I thought that it’d be a fun idea to plant bulbs in a smaller container to make a long-lasting gift. The idea is to layer flower bulbs that way you continue to have blooms for the next few weeks. I also planted a Zinnia on top for a punch of color. I used my silver julep cups because I loved the idea of the cup being reusable. Mint Julep, anyone? But of course you can use any vessel as long as it has enough depth for layering. Now that I have your attention, I’m sharing this easy DIY below.
Materials:
- Silver Julep Cupย (Similar one atย Pier 1 Imports)
- Moss
- Bulbs (I used Ranunculus)
- Flowering Plant (I used Zinnias)
- Potting Soil
- Pebbles
- Plastic
Directions:
Line the cup with plastic. Next, add a layer of pebbles to the bottom of the cup for drainage. Fill about 1/4 of the cup with potting soil then add 2-3 bulbs with roots facing down (note: some bulbs need to be soaked in water up to 6 hours prior). Then fill about another 1/4 of the cup with soil. Next plant the Zinnias. Add moss to cover the soil. Water and place in full sun.
