Around Savannah with James Gunn

Our Next Chapter

Lavin Label is Moving to a New City!

This time of year is usually hectic for us but this year it’s going to be unusually chaotic! Casey and I have made a really big decision last week and I couldn’t wait to share the exciting news with you!

We’re moving to Savannah, Georgia!!

Casey resigned as the Vice President of Sea Island Company last week to accept an offer with Montage Palmetto Bluff as the new General Manager. We’re so excited for this opportunity and look forward to our new adventure ahead!

It’s bittersweet because we love our Sea Island family and St. Simon’s community. We have so many dear friends and family on this precious Island which is why decided to keep our house here. That way, we can come back frequently and still stay immersed in the community, especially since Casey’s brother and sister-in-law live right down the street (literally like three houses away)! We’ve been living in St. Simon’s Island for 7 years now and during this time it really became our home. The people here are so friendly, genuine and welcoming that it will always remain a special place in our hearts. Of course, we’ll really miss Sea Island because there is no other place like it in the world. But we’re excited to see it continue to grow in the years ahead. I’ve also had the opportunity to help plan the 2018 yearly events for the American Cancer Society and I plan to finish out the year and continue to be involved. It was obviously a very big decision for us but we think that it’s best for the road ahead!

One of our favorite getaways has always been Palmetto Bluff so it’s such a special opportunity for us. It’s an absolutely beautiful property and we always felt very relaxed and at-home as soon as we turned on Old Palmetto Drive. We’re excited to join the growing Montage family and get to know both the Bluffton and Savannah communities in the years ahead.

The move to Savannah should also bring exciting changes for Lavin Label. It will be fun to introduce you to the Hostess City from a local’s perspective and I’m looking forward to meeting other entrepreneurs. I already know a few people in Savannah so I’m hoping that the transition will be smooth (fingers crossed)! We haven’t found a home just yet but we’re looking for something downtown so that we’re in walking distance to restaurants, church, boutiques and all of the beautiful squares. We’re wanting a change of scenery from our Island home on St. Simons and felt like this would be a great time to live downtown since we don’t have any kids yet. Palmetto Bluff is about 25-30 minutes from Savannah so it’s an easy commute for Casey.

Luckily, Savannah is only 90 minutes from St. Simon’s Island so it doesn’t really feel like we’re having to say goodbye.

I’ll be sharing more about our move in the next few months. Right now, we’re planning to move mid-June. Please say a little prayer for us! And be sure to sign up to my weekly newsletter to stay up to date with our move!

This is definitely bittersweet but very exciting! That’s great for Casey getting the GM position at the Montage! I had the best time there three weekends ago! Hope we can still catch up when I come to Sea Island in September!

I know I’m late reading this, but we absolutely love the Montage at Palmetto Bluff. Congratulations to you and your husband, such a spectacular property! We have a goal to visit every Thanksgiving and maybe even rent a residence one year for our whole family. I hope you both love Savannah and good luck with the move.

Congrats as well on your husbands new position at the Bluff. As you know we just moved from Palmetto Bluff. We have relocated to Charleston, but will returning often to visit with some of my best friends. Definitely a wonderful place to live and play.

Oh I LOVE Palmetto Bluff! I did a site visit there for a potential Executive Committee offsite but then we had some, er, management changes which included the ExCo so that was scrapped, unfortunately. I would have loved to stay there. I joke that one day I will live there in one of the residences. 🙂 Best of luck and congrats on the move.
