The first stop when my friends come into town is… you guessed it, Southern Soul Barbeque. It has been featured as one of the best BBQ restaurants in a long laundry list of notable publications and TV networks such as Southern Living, Garden and Gun, Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives, Wall Street Journal and many more. Even though these publications do a great job of describing the smoked meats and southern sides, my recommendation is to just stop by and eat lunch because the food speaks for itself.

At lunch time you’ll notice the crowds lined up to get a taste of what this former gas station turned BBQ joint has to offer. The day that we stopped by, there were dozens of people waiting in line. I’d say that we are pretty lucky to have this place right in our own backyard.

I always order the knuckle sammich – it’s the perfect size for a pulled pork sandwich (for the ladies) with a side of their mac n’ cheese and their fried green beans. The smoked turkey breast sandwich is also awesome.  Make sure to check out the chalk board behind the counter which lists the daily specials – you can never go wrong with these…
