Fall Trends with Wayfair
Mixing Materials In Your Kitchen
This week, as part of the Wayfair Inspiration Insiders YouTube Series, I’m showcasing four fall trends — starting with mixing materials in your kitchen. I’ve always loved the look and aesthetic of a clean kitchen–from white subway tile, to marble countertops, white cabinets + stainless steel appliances. However I would definitely recommend blending different materials in your kitchen to add texture and dimension. Check out my four tips below on how to mix materials!
Tip One. Incorporate Rustic Wood Cutting Boards as Decor
I live in Coastal Georgia, so a lot of the decor that you see on my blog, Lavin Label, has a subtle coastal feel with a traditional look. That’s one major reason why I love these J.K Adams rustic wood cutting boards from Wayfair. I love the weathered finish, since it reminds me of the driftwood found on our beaches, and they provide a wonderful contrast to the white tile backsplash. I recommend layering two or three boards of various shapes and sizes. Not only are they decorative but they’re also highly functional.
Tip Two. Think Vintage
Don’t get me wrong, I love a newly renovated kitchen with white backsplash, marble countertops and stainless steel appliances! However, I always try to incorporate vintage pieces, like this vintage-inspired runner, to offset everything that is new in the kitchen. I opted for a beige and navy color palette to stick with a more classic look. The contrast of new and old easily adds some charm + dimension to your kitchen. On top of that, the combination of wool and silk feels incredibly soft on your feet!
Tip Three. Add Texture with Seagrass
I’m inspired by the local coastal scenery and always try to bring these elements of design inside my house. Seagrass and rattan are popular right now, so it’s easy to find a seagrass basket that you can use to hold cooking utensils or as a planter to hold your herbs in. Fresh herbs are kitchen essential for cooking or creating cocktails, so I typically plant mine in this tin and wicker planter. If you’re looking for some fresh cocktail ideas, check out my blog or Instagram for some quick videos!
Tip Four. Add Accents of Marble
Marble is very popular right now, and while a marble island or marble counter top always produces a stunning effect, smaller touches of marble can also create a natural feeling in your kitchen. Think about incorporating marble candle holders, vases, salt bowls and cutting boards to your kitchen. Wayfair has some beautiful marble bud vases and planters that would be perfect next to your kitchen sink, in a bathroom or on a guestroom night stand. For a long lasting option, plant succulents in a marble vase. I love succulents because they are low-maintenance and provide subtle colors to a room, so it’s truly a win-win!
