At our Create Society event that I hosted in December, I served Elderflower Champagne and it was a big hit. I've had a lot of requests since then to share the recipe so I thought that I'd feature it today on Lavin Label. It's the perfect (and simple) cocktail to serve to your guests or as a signature cocktail for a wedding. The recipe calls for Angostura Bitters which are used in small amounts in cocktails for flavor. You can easily add a dash or two to the drink. But if you really want to wow your guests, then follow the recipe below to make homemade Angostura sugar cubes! Ingredients 1 Part Belvoir Elderflower Lemonade 1 Part Champagne 1 Angostura Sugar Cube (see recipe below) Instructions In a coupe glass, add Belvoir Elderflower Lemonade and top with champagne. Add…

If you’re trying to decide where to eat in Savannah, then you have to go to SOHO South Café. You guessed it—the café is named after the popular New York City neighborhood and incorporates classic New York City design elements into its décor.  Not only is the café is located in the heart of historic downtown Savannah, but the restaurant is also famous for its lunch and Sunday brunch. You couldn’t possibly pick a better place to eat in Savannah! The space was originally home to an automotive service station in 1945. It was vacant for several years before the original owner renovated it and opened the restaurant in 1997. Then, Daniel Reed Hospitality bought the restaurant and transformed it into the fabulous space that it is today. The menu features elaborate southern dishes, seafood, sandwiches…

If you’re planning a trip to Savannah, then you have to include Cohen’s Retreat on your agenda! Located in midtown Savannah, the grounds of the five acre property are filled with gorgeous oaks draped in Spanish moss, while the different buildings seamlessly blend art, food and the community. The retreat is home to a restaurant, shops, event space and breathtakingly gorgeous grounds. In 1934 the space was originally home to Cohen’s Old Man Retreat, which was Mr. Percy Cohen’s dream—a space for elderly men to reside at the end of their life. The retreat was open for more than 50 years, and then in 2010 Colleen Smith and Karen Langston decided to bring back this Savannah landmark, while transforming it into a unique and innovative design center that is raved about by all who…

I love meeting women who fearlessly start their own business, especially when I hear a few years later that they are killing it. This is the story of Elizabeth Seeger who is the founder of Satchel—a Savannah based boutique that designs and creates bags in the back of their Liberty Street shop. As a graduate of Savannah Art and Design, (SCAD) she started Satchel in October of 2006. Today, shoppers around the world are opting for high quality and locally made bags as opposed to brands that mass produce their bags and then ship them around the world. At Satchel you can find handbags, clutches, travel bags and an assortment of leather goods—such as cuffs, bracelets, and even beverage coozies. They also love working with individuals to customize orders. Their retail space houses a boutique,…

I'm very fortunate to live on the coast and love taking in the gorgeous views of both the marshlands and beaches. I enjoy watching the marshgrass transition in color throughout the winter. It's relaxing to head to the beach on cooler days since it quieter and the shoreline gives off a different energy than it does in the summertime. I want to bring some of the ocean life into my home, so I decided to make an oyster garland wreath. I teamed up with Kelli and headed to Savannah in search of oyster shells. Winter mornings on the coast tend to be both chilly and windy, so a stylish wind breaker, fabulous pair of boots, and layered tops provide the perfect foundation for a February wardrobe. I usually stick with a classic pair of…
