Easy Halloween Cocktail

A Classic White Russian

White Russian

If you're looking for an easy cocktail recipe to serve this Halloween, try the Classic White Russian with a few upgrades. To stick with the halloween theme, the Bake Shop at Sea Island helped me create a witch hat garnish made out of cookies and a waffle cone along with a fondant witch broomstick as the stirrer. Enjoy! White Russian Cocktail: 2 oz. Kahlúa 1 oz. Vodka 1 Vanilla Bean Heavy Cream Ice Cinnamon Sticks In a rocks glass, add the Kahlúa, Vodka, Vanilla Bean and stir. Add the ice. Top with Heavy Cream. Stir and grate cinnamon over the cocktail. Garnish with cinnamon sticks.

Fall-inspired Fireplace Mantel

Decorating for Fall

I love Halloween! I think it's the marathon of scary movies on TV, store shelves filled with candy and an evening where everyone is entertaining trick or treaters or walking around the neighborhood with their families. But I don't necessarily love decorating my house for Halloween - not a big fan of orange. The colors (throughout my entire house) are blues, beiges and light greens. But this year -- I found some amazing white and pale blue pumpkins + gourds that just go perfectly with my living room and fireplace mantel. I did add some orange -- this adorable wood cut out of candy corn from The Grace Graffiti.     Photography: Kelli Boyd Photography Wood Candy Corn: Grace Graffiti

The Ordinary

The Ordinary

Far from it, don't let the name fool you. Mike Lata's most recent project took him out of FIG and around the corner then north on King Street to an incredible building that eerily resembles a bank called The Ordinary. Luckily for you and me, the only loans distributed are world class memories that make you grateful to be in Charleston. Definitely order the Seafood Platter and try one of the artisan cocktails crafted by their bartenders. You won't be disappointed. Don’t Lose Your Head

Tips for Starting a Business

Don't Loose Your Head

It can be tough when you turn what you love doing into a business. It's definitely a game changer. Lavin Label turned 6 months in September so I'm still trying to get the hang of things. A month or so ago I was planning two photo shoots for Savannah Magazine, one for Elegant Island Living Magazine, Pottery Barn and right in the middle Kelli Boyd and I traveling to NYC for New York Fashion Week. I worked a lot of late nights and sometimes wondered if I could get through it. But then I realized that this is what I've been hoping for since I started Lavin Label and that I was letting all of the 'work' get the best of me. It was then that I told myself that I need to live in the…

Juler’s Row

Jewelry and Gemstone Wall Art

Juler's Row

I'm in the process of updating my guest bedrooms and my home office -- so I'm on the lookout for eye catching wall art. I learned about a gal, Julie Bishop from Juler's Row, who designs renderings of jewelry and gemstones and then her mom, an artist and designer, meticulously paints them! It's really a great story -- what could be better than a mother/daughter business?! Sounds like that family is totally creative. The idea of Juler's Row (such a clever name) actually started when Julie was looking for antique inspired jewelry renderings to hang in her office. She couldn't find anything online so she decided to create original designs and work with her mom to bring them to life. I really like the antique bug and butterfly brooches along with the watercolor necklace. The soft…
