Touring the Village in Escapada

Sometimes the best treasures are right in your backyard! Earlier this month, I spent an afternoon reconnecting with our enchanted island.  Prepped for a day of walking around St. Simons Island, I opted to wear this long sleeve, stylish and comfortable Layla dress from Escapada. The morning began beautifully.  The locals were out walking their dogs, grabbing their morning coffee, and opening their shops. We started our day by heading to the St. Simons Lighthouse Museum and the A.W. Jones Heritage Center. You can take a tour of the historic lighthouse and keeper's dwelling, both built in 1872. We recommend climbing all 129 steps to the top of the lighthouse! It's a bit of a jaunt to get up, but the views are to die for. Next, we hopped aboard the Lighthouse Trolley for a tour of St. Simons Island!…

River House at Palmetto Bluff

Fresh and Contemporary Southern Cuisine

River House

The highlight of my recent trip to The Inn at Palmetto Bluff, a Montage resort was definitely enjoying dinner + drinks at the River House. I have a lot of memories in this restaurant -- from dining with my brother-in-law and his wife right before their first baby was born (that's big!) to sharing date nights with my husband. There's a sense of nostalgia when I step through those doors. We sat outside on the patio -- the sound of the wildlife was almost too loud. Executive Chef Nathan Beriau greeted us and described the vision of the new menu which was launched near the end of July. He called it a celebration of ingredients. Jason McGarry, Chef de Cuisine of the River House pulled influence from local ingredients found on the coast and in the South. But…

On my recent visit to Charleston, South Carolina, Annie Reeves (one of my favorite Charleston bloggers) met me at Candy Shop Vintage for some serious shopping! You won't miss the boutique located at 9 Cannon Street -- the bright pastels will certainly catch your eye. Once you enter, you'll be greeted by the talented owner + designer, Deirdre Zahl, along with her pup, Birthday! This is a great place to go when you're shopping in the Holy City. If you're looking for the perfect chunky necklace or statement earrings, you'll find them here. After years of collecting and selling the perfect vintage pieces, Deirdre started her own vintage inspired jewelry line made in the USA. Good news for us! You can check out the latest arrivals from Candy Shop Vintage on House Account. It's where I first learned…

Del Sur Bakery

Small Town Bakery in St. Simon's Island

Del Sur Bakery

One of my favorite restaurants on the Island is Del Sur. They offer Argentinian + Italian cuisine. Their dishes are homemade and they use vegetables and herbs from their garden. So, when I heard that they opened a bakery right down the street (near the Pier Village) I was very excited. Luckily, Kelli Boyd, my fabulous photographer also likes sweets, coffee + artisan sandwiches. So without delay, we hopped in the car and headed to 539 Ocean Boulevard, St. Simons. Let me be clear -- everything is made from scratch. They have a baker that comes in every night and makes the donuts, breads and bagels. Try their spinach empanadas, Del Sur blend coffee (mix of Peruvian and Costa Rican beans), onion bagels and Chimichurri Steak Sauce. If you're looking for lunch on the go, grab…
