Three Looks to Recreate from the HGTV Dream Home

Let the HGTV Home Inspire Your 2017 Decor

Happy New Year, friends! If you’re like me then the new year means one thing, and no I’m not talking about New Years Resolutions, at least not yet! I’m referring to the HGTV Dream Home Sweepstakes! At this time of year (every year) I go to HGTV.com and enter to win the Dream Home. The sweeps opened last week so it’s officially your chance to win this beautifully renovated home — almost right down the street from me! The HGTV home is almost in my backyard — St. Simons Island, GA. Kelli Boyd and I, along with Cheri and Whitney from The Southern C, had the chance to tour the dream home in the beginning of December and it sure was dreamy. Since we just renovated our home and I’m in the process of decorating, I thought that I’d highlight three looks from the designer, Brian Patrick Flynn, that I plan to recreate in my home and you can too! I also love that HGTV partnered with Wayfair! I love Wayfair’s home furnishings and they helped me get my rental home in tip top shape last fall!

Create Your Own Bedroom Oasis

Navy accents are a trend right now and the rich color helps make your bedroom more relaxing and inviting. You can add navy by painting your walls or by adding accents through decor elements such as ginger jars, pillows, rugs, and bedding. I especially love a sitting area in a master bedroom and if you don’t have the extra space opt for a reading nook with a cozy chair, side table and a floor lamp. P.S. Did you see Lacefield Design’s Sahara Midnight on the armless loveseat? I actually recovered my two armchairs in my master with this same pattern except in mineral. I’d say that Brian Patrick Flynn and I were on the same wavelength for that pick!

Entertain in Style in your Living Room

I really loved the open and airy living room that they created for this home. Of course you can’t recreate the water views — but you can certainly add a few elements to your living room to make it coastal inspired. I love how the decor brings in hues and coastal design elements that matches the lowcountry landscape — such as the potted palms, marshlands painting and the Pecky Cypress on the vaulted ceiling. I’ll definitely be adding greenery to my home in the next few weeks and I love the idea of bringing in palms and planting them in a seagrass basket which adds texture. And of course you can also add texture by bringing in a natural fibers for the rug. The farmhouse style table adds a relaxed feeling with a mix of accessories such as books, candles and a glass jug. Decorating coffee tables and side tables is a challenge for me because I love simplicity. So I’ll be taking a few cues from this tabletop arrangement for sure. You can never have too many coffee table books and glass vases!

Add Special Touches to your Bathrooms

There’s nothing more welcoming for you or your guests than when you add special touches to your bathroom. Just a little bit can go along with in regards to Turkish bath towels, hand towels, added storage and fresh greenery. I love when bathrooms have ceramic garden stools — it’s just the right size to hold towels, bath salts, soaps and candles. And you can easily add a pop of color by getting a patterned or bright garden stool. And if you have a window in your bathroom then I’d definietly opt for drapes — it automatically softens the room. Lastly, think about hanging serene artwork that evokes a sense of peacefulness. I loved how they had an art gallery wall in their bathroom — may try to do that in my powder room to add some dimension!
